Tuesday night was fun; it's great to see all the gang, new and old, together enjoying competitive play on a great day. Also... a quick shout out to Mike Libby, "Happy Birthday" old man.
Other than clear skies and sticky sand I noticed something that needs to be addressed.
Something was said about one of the players Tuesday night who was waiting to sub in, that he couldn't play on the open court...It wasn't the fact that he wasn't capable, it was implied, "right in front of him", that we are open players and he is not. Some people were offended by the comment...as if there are "true" open players in Daytona...there may be two that I know of that have actually won a tourney at the open level.
Exercising that kind of ego is what has destroyed v-ball in Daytona; it use to flourish with tourneys, players and fans. Who wants to play with a "Big Head", especially those who don't have the talent to back it up. I think there are several players out there that attain this kind of quality.
Thank God for the John Rue's, The Rimstidt's and the Jeff Doutrick's of the world that say, " No Worries", and encourage other players to better their game...for the rest of us! That is how we sustain our sport in Daytona, When most of us play in the past...Lol.
I say be an encouragement to the inexperienced player...share your experience not your attitude and ego. Otherwise volleyball, in Daytona, will be played by those that are left...till they AGE out.
SHOW ME YOUR AN OPEN PLAYER DON'T TELL ME....
